 IRCC has started category-based selection

 In a news release on May 31, IRCC announced the implementation of six additional category-based selection criteria for candidates applying through Express Entry.

 IRCC has introduced six new category-based selection criteria for Express Entry candidates, aimed at individuals with specific attributes that align with Canada’s economic objectives. 

 These categories focus on candidates with work experience in the following fields: healthcare, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions, trades (such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors), transportation, agriculture, and agri-food. Additionally, there is a category for candidates with strong French-speaking abilities.

 While IRCC has not provided an exact date, it anticipates conducting category-based draws during the upcoming summer. To be eligible for these targeted draws, candidates must be in the Express Entry pool. 

 The department will assess and rank candidates who meet the category requirements, issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to those with the highest scores.

IRCC will continue to hold all program draws and program-specific draws as required in addition to the new category-based draws.
